Whereby SDK & Product Updates April 2025

Over the past month, we’ve rolled out several exciting new features - from powerful new session transcriptions to enhanced visual cues with highlight speaker. We’ve also been busy making the developer experience better with fresh updates to our documentation.

Product updates

Highlight Speaker: This new feature makes it easier for participants to follow the flow of the conversation in large group sessions. It does this by highlighting the active speaker with a halo around their video tile in real-time. See how it works.

Download Chat V2: Previously, you could only allow participants to download their chat history at the end of a video call session. With the new update, you can now download chat history during and after video call sessions. You can enable this globally from the dashboard or on a per-room basis. Read more about this here.

Session Transcriptions: Produce a transcript directly from a session, without the need to record it. Transcripts of the video call are available as soon as the session ends, either by downloading them from your Embedded dashboard or programatically via the API. Learn more about this.

Live Captions: When enabled, participants can see captions within the meeting room UI, which improves accessibility. See how it works here.

Updates to our mobile documentation

We’ve updated our documentation to highlight the different ways you can embed Whereby in a mobile app, especially on iOS.

In addition to the demo on getting started with the native iOS SDK, we’ve now included a public demo app for embedding Whereby on iOS using a webview. See what’s changed here.
