New Whereby Embedded Browser SDK with React hooks V3 now released

We recently released version 3 of our React hooks browser-sdk! This release is full of new features, based on the feedback we’ve gathered from the first releases.

  • Video Grid component - This is a plug-and-play component that you can use to have a fully interactive video grid with just a couple of lines of code. The default behavior of the grid is similar to the Whereby in-room video grid, but it’s possible to customize it further to fit different use-cases and UIs. This component is actively being worked on, and there’s a bunch of features and improvements coming in future releases as well.

  • Spotlighting - A built-in method for highlighting and styling specific participants. The video grid component also respects spotlights and will increase the video size of any spotlighted participants.

  • Speaker selection - The ability to allow management of speaker devices.

  • Join/leave actions - Methods to control participant presence. This gives developers more control over billable events using the SDK.

  • Bug fixes and performance improvements.

The release has some breaking changes, so make sure to check out our migration guide if you are upgrading from an earlier version, or check out the Getting started section in our docs, if you’re new to the Whereby Embedded Browser SDK.
